History Council Rock Newtown Little League Founded in 1953 as Council Rock Little League, our league originally included all of Northampton, Richboro and Holland in addition to our current boundary of Newtown Borough and Newtown Township. Lownes Field in Newtown was the home of Council Rock Little League for many years. Where in the world was Lownes Field located? Believe it or not, that lone 60 foot Little League field occupied the land that now serves as a shopping center: Newtown Depot. So, where you now go to get Dunkin Donuts, your haircut and your pictures framed, once stood the original home of Council Rock Little League. As the population of our original Little League territory grew, the league was eventually split into two charters in 1975. That split created two leagues: Council Rock Newtown and Council Rock Northampton. Again, due to additional population growth in 1988, Council Rock Newtown was split further to create Council Rock Holland. The rivalry between our three leagues is quite fierce, but it is that rivalry that has resulted in tremendous success on the field. Through the 2009 Season, Council Rock Newtown Athletic Association had captured thirty-one District Titles at every imaginable age group as part of our associations with Little League, Junior Little League, Senior Little League, Babe Ruth and Senior Babe Ruth. We have also won fourteen Section Titles, eight Pennsylvania State Championships and two Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships. Over the years we have been members of Little League PA District 21, Little League PA District 30, Little League PA Sections 4, 5 and 6, Babe Ruth PA District 3 and Lower Bucks County Senior Babe Ruth. If you add the many championships won by our sister programs in Northampton and Holland, you can readily see that the youth baseball roots that were established in Newtown over 50 years ago have created a community of baseball organizations that are dedicated to excellence, development and fun. In 2008, we also took control of Newtown American Legion Morrell Smith Post 440's baseball program. We now offer Legion baseball at three different age categories: Junior Legion 13s, Junior Legion 14s-15s and American Legion 16s-19s. CRNAA utilizes 13 fields throughout Newtown Township and Newtown Borough. Our partnership with Newtown Township gives us access to three fields at our Chandler Fields Complex for Little League and two fields at Helen Randle Park; one for Little League and the other for Babe Ruth and Senior Babe Ruth. In historic Newtown Borough, we use the bucolic Pickering Field for Babe Ruth and Senior Babe Ruth. Thanks to Council Rock School District, we have access to fields at Newtown Elementary, Goodnoe Elementary, Newtown Middle School and Council Rock High School North for Little League, Babe Ruth, Senior Babe Ruth, Junior Legion and American Legion. By 2010, we will have one additional 60 foot field and one additional 90 foot field, both with state-of-the-art lighting systems, when the long-awaited Woll Tract is completed. Those additions will bring the total number of fields used by approximately 600 players in CRNAA to fifteen. Since 1953, the advancement of our league has always centered around the contributions of our volunteers. Please do your part to become a part of the CRNAA legacy by volunteering whatever time you can. |
